Jayne Cravens -- well-known for her helpful tips at http://www.coyotecom.com/tips.html -- is overseeing the operations of the revitalized mailing list. Messages posted to soc.org.nonprofit are automatically sent to NONPROFIT, and vice versa. So there is no need to attend to both; you can choose whether you prefer to see the messages as they appear on UseNet in the newsgroup or to receive them as emails from NONPROFIT.

There is information about both at this website; click on "The Information Files" button for the FAQ, then go to the bottom of the index an click again to find out "About NONPROFIT and soc.org.nonprofit". Advice on how to subscribe, and unsubscribe, from the mailing list is included there, along with notes about other options, the list's policies and operations, etc.

There are several other lively online discussion groups for nonprofits; one way to see a range of choices is to visit the online index at http://www.liszt.com/ and use the "search" option to look for "nonprofit". And of course, many specific subjects that nonprofits work on or think about have their own lists which can be found at Liszt by searching with appropriate keywords.
