'Second Family' wins Drucker Award for 1996

Lutheran Social Services of Illinois' Second Family Program, a program that offers a new option for HIV-affected families, has won the sixth annual Peter F. Drucker Award for Nonprofit Innovation of $25,000.

Two other innovative programs will be acknowledged at the conference: Peace Officers Chaplaincy of Fresno County, Inc.'s Care Fresno Program, a partnership between local police, churches and community organizations in Fresno to improve neighborhoods; and Honolulu's Consuelo Zobel Alger Foundation's program, Ke Aka Ho'ona (from the Hawaiian meaning "The Spirit or Hope of Consuelo"), a self-help community development program encouraging teamwork to build homes and build a community free of substance abuse and family violence.
